Poverty

What role should the wealthy nations of the world, like Canada and the United States, play in easing the suffering of the world's poorest people? What responsibility do the wealthiest people have in tackling global poverty?

It is important for the wealthier nations such as Canada and the United States to support the suffering of the world's poorest by providing education, information, and in some cases possibly even technology to improve the quantity and type of food grown. Technology can be used to possibly implement irrigation and developing better seats to increase crop yields. I feel that we must do more than just provide money and food because that is not inedibly solving the problem.

Israeli settlement building blog # 7

The Israeli settlement building in the E1 zone is a very contentious issue with no clear right or wrong answer of solution. This has been bred by the contempt and lack of trust that Arabs and the Israeli's have for each other. The Jewish people claim ancestral rights to the land but it was not part of the territory ceded to them after World War Two. Instead, the land was captured in the 1967 was and they have refused to return the land but have built on it instead. I think on this fact alone, Israel must not build on the E1 zone lands to preserve the peace treaty talks but also because all settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank are illegal under international law.

Connecticut Shooting Blog #6

What does this teach us about violence in society?

The shooting that took place in Connecticut at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14th of 2012 was a devastating shock not only to Connecticut and the United States, but to people world wide. The mass shooting in Connecticut shocked us from not only the number of the deaths but also the ages and who had past. The targeting of innocent young children and teachers is not only horrific but also troubling. Why someone would want to target young children in a motiveless act is disturbing. Violence in society is becoming a lot more common and the prolific. In this instance the shooter used an automatic weapon with multiple high capacity magazines. Society is still stunned and confused with the rational of why the shooter would want to kill young children. It seems very evident that violent crime, especially using high powered weapons is become much more common in today's society.
