Blog Post #5 WIC reflection

Unfortunately, I was unable to take part in the World Issues Conference as I returned home due to being ill. After discussing with friends and classmates, I feel as if I have a good understanding of how the day fell out. It seemed to be quiet successful with a few minor tweaks necessary to improve the fluidity and effectiveness of the day for next year. This conference stands a very important purpose. It requires multiple students from different schools to come together in simulations and discussions in order to be successful. Therefore, this day not only brings global awareness to younger generations, but teaches them key qualities in group collaboration. The presentations and discussions allowed students to get a factual idea of issues and then the water walk and the water filter simulations allowed for a physical understanding of the people facing these issues. In conclusion, I think this day is a great way to    involve students in world issues.

  1. you missed a great day!! lots of learning, lots of fun! It was pretty successful for one of the first years doing this, the biggest adjustment i felt that needed to be made is overall better organisation.

  2. So sad that you could not participate in the conference with me! Our group was fantastic and our grade 8 presenters knew their topics very well!
